We were picked up by Yoga promptly at 0800 from our hotel in Nusa Dua. The drive to the quad biking was approx 1 hour 45 mins, as it is located north of Ubud. Yoga was a very safe driver.
At the quad biking we were greeted, signed waivers and were given disposable plastic bags to wear as socks before putting on wellies. Helmets also compulsory. Our quad bike guide Made, was excellent. First a lesson on how to drive, then 10 mins around a test track to get the feel of it and away we went.
Through jungle, steep descents (slightly scary!) rocky paths, the “wet zone” which was an epic water/mud filled section where you are going to get dirty. Then up some equally steep ascents, along and in a river, a second wet/splash zone, through a cave and tunnel and some tights turns. A short stop at a halfway point for you to purchase a cold drink (pay back at base) and then continue riding.
Back at base, you are provided with clean towels and shower facilities to shower and change into clean clothes.
My 16yo daughter and 14yo son and I LOVED every minute of quad biking.
What I learnt that wasn’t completely clear from the information on the site:
- wear bathers / clothes you don’t mind getting wet and dirty
- take a change of clean clothes
- lockers with a key are provided for your belongings
- you can take your phone for photos on the actual ride but I’d had it in a waterproof case and attached securely to you.
- they offer photographic services for 350,000 IDR (about AUD $35) and you get a link to download them. We did this and got approx 40 - 50 photos.
- the showers are cold but it such a hot day it was refreshing
- you get your own guide
And the big one that I couldn’t find anywhere …..
- anyone aged 12 and above can drive a quad bike by themselves.
A very well set up and organised activity. Would ABSOLUTELY do this again.
The second half of the day was snorkeling. This is located approx 1 hour 40mins from quad biking on Padang Bai Beach. The restaurant opposite the beach has your change room and then onto a traditional boat for snorkeling.
Boat ride less than 10 mins for first stop of Tanjung Jepun.
Upside: lots of fish to see
Downside : the huge petrol / fuel tankers moored in the background. Not nearly as pretty or remote as I anticipated.
Then just round the cove to Blue Lagoon beach. More appealing because no tankers in the background. Water is clearer and lots of colorful coral and fish.
Shower and change facilities are very basic - and you MUST bring your own towel.
Long drive back to Nusa Dua just under 2 hours due to time of night and traffic.
Fantastic day out - Yoga was a man of few words but very pleasant and safe driving.
